New Server Proposals / Changing Server 8
« on: December 22, 2013, 04:35:56 pm »
From what I have noticed in the past few weeks, since Naz and the other typical long goal players stopped appearing, server 8 was left quite deserted. What also bothers is that in fact server 8 is a more simple copy of server 5. While it had players, there was no point in changing it, but since this has changed, I don`t want to waste resources on an empty server.

When I think about server 8 , I think about Geert and his love for long desert goals. Therefore I propose to convert S8 into a sister of server 5 but on Desert. We can discuss this proposal, or you may propose other types of goals and discuss those too. Please state your oppinion.

Also, I would like your proposals to also contain numerical examples so we know what we`re talking about. In case we decide to change s8 to a desert long goal, only the goal would be a fixed parameter (between 15 BIL and 20 BIL). The other parameters can be discussed.

Thank You

New Server Proposals / CHANGING SERVER 7
« on: December 10, 2013, 06:49:08 pm »
As you all know, this time has come. My idea is as following:
-Changing server 7 to temperate will:

1. Leave S3 as the only desert CV that we got ( a good idea since it is mostly an empty server except for a few games a day when it reaches 5-7 player)
2. Give us the opportunity to improve a very old server and possibly to come up with a better gameplay for it (temperate is more recommended for small servers since it has a lot of trains and industries)

However, I must agree with Imus: Server 7 is our smallest server (about 1h) and it would be better to remain this way. So I ask all of you, if you want to propose scenarios which we can discuss for server 7 on temperate landscape. I hope we will be able to make the change during the week-end if Batt agrees too and if there are enough oppinions.

The fixed parameters: Small to Medium  Map
Goal that would last max 1h-1h30

A first idea that I`d want to try would be NO PERFORMANCE. This should allow us to test if performance is driving our new players away or not.

Thank You.

Suggestions / Removing performance on small servers
« on: October 05, 2013, 04:48:51 pm »
This is not the first time I`m proposing to remove the performance to small servers. I consider that performance is extremely harmful for starting players.

I consider removing performance from servers 3,4,7 and 9 would be a good idea for starting players. Please state your oppinions

New Server Proposals / Temperate CityBuilder
« on: October 05, 2013, 04:46:07 pm »
I propose to implement a new Temperate CB server:

8000 population

rest of settings the same as server 1.

This is due to the fact that temperate CB servers are becoming very popular.

General / TOURNAMENT REQUESTS
« on: June 01, 2013, 05:02:26 pm »
Here you must write all the tournament requests after you have already discussed with the person challenged. The tournament can have any rule you want or settings.

Do you or do you not like the idea of server 8? Submit your ideas here pro or against...and also proposals on how to make it more attractive :)
Until then...I wish you a good game;)

General / New set of punishments
« on: November 09, 2012, 01:23:59 pm »
During the last period of time , I couldn`t help somehow thinking that maybe the punishments for the players are a bit hard. Don`t get me wrong, I don`t support rule breaks but somehow we could improve this aspect. Therefore I propose a new set of punishments for the rule breakers. Also, Xor can tell us which of this is technically possible, which is not. If the punishments are accepted by both sides(admins & players) , we can start a debate about how to implement those punishments to a transformed set of rules and also about what we should add or remove from the current rules.

My idea is to group the punishments into 3 categories....and for every rule break to have 3 cases: easy breaking, medium breaking and heavy breaking
I`m thinking about implementing this into an admin code so we could try to be a bit more objective then we currently are.

Easy punishments: 1: Paying an amount of money (the company is forced to pay or to lose a certain amount of money which would make it harder to finish 1st)
2: Not being able to build for X minutes (Everything a certain player builds....is deleted automatically for X minutes)
3: Taking the company out of the Goal System (Losing the right to compete in the game)
4: Deleting vehicles (the company loses a number of vehicles)
5: Muting the player (taking care of those players who simply don`t know when to stop)

Medium punishments: 6: Taking a coefficient of points (each server has a certain amount of points...so if you break the rules in server 5 , you lose 50 points (example),if  you break them in server 3 , you lose 30 points (example)
7: Suspend the account for X days (the player cannot maintain his scoring with his account being suspended for X days)
8: Remove certain achievements  (the player loses certain achievements that he earned)
9: Transfering money to the victim (In the cases where a rule break did more damage then usual)

Hard punishments : 10: Kicking the player
11: Suspending his account (All the points are lost)
                                12: Tempbanning his ip
13: Permanent ban of the player ip

Depending on the severity of the cases, I consider that those should be the punishments. I also am very curious to see opinions about this proposal. Also, I installed a poll for the players to vote (since the admins are very few, we will vote separately). Opinions please

General / Arctic CB : Fiction or Reality?
« on: October 16, 2012, 08:53:04 pm »
We are thinking about starting an Arctic City Builder.....and we need opinions. There are several proposals considered:

1: Start it as a separate server
2: Replace server k8"Airplane Fantasia" with an Arctic City Builder with planes mostly....
3: Wait until more bugs in CB are fixed before adding another CB server
4: Other suggestion......write it on the forum..

I also started a poll to see...

The Desert Short Goal is our most popular and has been like this for a long time. It is one of the first N-ice.org servers and radical changes were never made to it.

The game has a limit of 80 trains , 200 road vehicles & 20 aircraft. Map is 512 x 1024 and maximum Train Length is 7 tiles (1 locomotive + 13 wagons)
Server runs between 1995 and 2040 or until the goal (40 milion EUR) is reached.

A good strategy on this server is to try to stay focus and build all the way. Usually , competition is intense so players who go AFK usually cannot come back:)
A good start is very important for the gameplay.

Beside this, every new strategy is welcomed:)

Server r8 Hard Goal (50 Milion Goal) / Server 14 (Gameplay in images)
« on: October 06, 2012, 06:02:20 pm »
Designed as a Hard Goal, it remained that way...

The game length is rather short , starting 1970 and ending in 2010. The loan(200.000 EUR) is smaller then the one for other servers . The maximum number of trains allowed is 100 and the same goes for road vehicles.

But the hard points of the server are without doubt  the map which is made out of mountainous islands and the maximum train length: 7 tiles (1 locomotive +13 wagons)

A good strategy is to find a very good place to start (2 industries of the same kind or one with big production) and also to build as cheap as you can. Spendings have to be watched all the time in this server:)

Beside this, every new strategy is welcomed:)

The temperate Long Goal is one of our oldest servers and also the 2nd most popular after server 3. With the original settings, the server used to start in 1925 and go until 2125. During the time more and more players suggested to start later so newer trains could be available and also to be possible for most games to reach Maglev period.
Before this change , the server also had a "dark period" when it had the Infrastructure Cost enabled.

Since the change to the current settings was made, server 5 became more and more popular , reaching the peak of 19 players. The game starts in 1960 close to the development of electric locomotives and runs until 2080. The map is 2048 x 512  with a goal of 15 billion euro. After a lot of changes, the current train limit is set to 450 and a maximum length of the trains of 20 (1 locomotive + 39 wagons). The average time to complete this server according to our database is 19 hours

The strategy is to start building intensively in the beginning and to coordinate your real life activities(nobody can stay 19 hours straight)  with important periods of the game (change to TIM Electric ; change to Monorail ; change to Maglev ; newer Maglev locomotives)

Beside this, every new strategy is welcomed:)

Server 4 was designed as a Medium Goal with Arctic Landscape. Even if it was one of our oldest servers, it always had the problem of not being so popular because of the climate.
The player number increased first time when changing start date (Server 4 became Futuristic Arctic Goal)

Admin Knogle`s efforts have brought this server into the light and we are hoping that from here the settings will improve. A bit unbalanced with rather large towns and cities, the map is 1024 x 1024 , with maximum 500 trains.
Trains can be 12 tiles long (minimum 1 locomotive + 23 wagons)

The best strategy for this server is either transporting passengers(towns are a bit big) , or using long cargo lines.

Beside this, every new strategy is welcomed:)

General / Extreme Goal Server
« on: August 23, 2012, 06:03:06 pm »
There are big chances that in the future days (weeks) , the N-ice servers will have a new addition:

www.n-ice.org/openttd server 9 Extreme Goal

Basically we are thinking about running a huge goal....bigger then your imagination:)

So far , the only suggestion is for it to have 25-30 bil...

We`re waiting for suggestions for this server

Desert or Temperate? How many trains? How many airplanes?
How much Performance?
How big should the map be?

Every opinion that you have...we can discuss it here. I`ll try to test your opinions to see how they go...but i also advise you to do the same...
Hopefully we can have an idea about how will this server look...:)

Special Thanks to admin Kadar for this server:)
