Title: Extreme Goal Server
Post by: alex879ro on August 23, 2012, 06:03:06 pm
There are big chances that in the future days (weeks) , the N-ice servers will have a new addition:

www.n-ice.org/openttd server 9 Extreme Goal

Basically we are thinking about running a huge goal....bigger then your imagination:)

So far , the only suggestion is for it to have 25-30 bil...

We`re waiting for suggestions for this server

Desert or Temperate? How many trains? How many airplanes?
How much Performance?
How big should the map be?

Every opinion that you have...we can discuss it here. I`ll try to test your opinions to see how they go...but i also advise you to do the same...
Hopefully we can have an idea about how will this server look...:)

Special Thanks to admin Kadar for this server:)

oh wow this be awesome :D
temperate, size well i think what we have on server 5 is good but have it wider as the ammount of players over period of time  can sure take up alot of rail space lol
25-40planes..

20-25 tile stations

normal town growth?

perfomance 950-1000

all just my opinion :D

I like the map idea  8)

A big game on s5 is hard to enter for many players including me. So why not make it s8 like

TL 14, with 800 trains
no ships,
no planes (so everyone gets the same start and town size dont matter)
loan to 1 million

Poida, I agree....so 2048x2048 map:D
20-25 Train Length?------->>> that small?:P.......i agree with 25-40 trains........and also agree about performance...but this is a dilemma because

Normally, we would have to set it to 1000 but makes you think.....it is the perfect performance...not everybody can get it...
As for 950 it`s the same as 1000...means you would have to get the indicator for minimum profit.....

So we must give it another thought

A big game on s5 is hard to enter for many players including me. So why not make it s8 like

You would be surprised but there isn`t much difference. Before we made the changes on s8, the load of the server was 14%
After the changes it dropped to about 10% so it`s not much difference. But from what i know the Extreme Goal will have a good connection....so i don`t think there will be problems.
If there will be,  we shall take measures....

I agree with town size doesn`t matter, altough we will have to balance it somehow after we decide a final form for it`s settings otherwise it will be boring....

No Planes---->>> i dunno.....i was thinking about 25-40 planes like Poida said.Justification : for a 25 bil-30 bil goal planes really don`t matter....u can have 25 planes cause still if you don`t build, there is no way in the world to have a chance to win it.

No ships ---->>> agreed

TL 14 with 800 trains? ---->> only if we get connection problems we`ll reduce the train size and increase train number...but i think 800 trains would be too small...In case we get to that I was thinkin about 1000-1200 trains.

i was able to get 900 mil a year on s8 with tl 14 with only 400 trains (maglev 2)

with 800 trains and mag 4 trains i think i can make 2.2 billion a year that enough to get 25 billion :)

If it's temperate can I suggest making all the edges or two sides of the map water (and boats). It adds a nice dynamic to have oil rigs.

@Zero Income  I understand your idea...but only one problem. The pathfinder for boats issues an incredible load on the server.

100 boats load the server like 1000 trains (hard to believe)

That`s why in the long goals we are looking to eliminate boats. The part about the water on 2 sides is a nice idea and will be done...perhaps even on 3 sides.
But it is better to cross the water with land then having boats. Their pathfinder just stinks....

@Geert : Yes, again the magic word "I"....."I was able"

But ask yourself a question...how many people u saw to have 900 mil/year with TL 14:P
Yet again...ask yourself how many people u saw having 900 mil/year with TL 23
And in the end...ask yourself how many people u saw having 900 mil/year in any conditions:)...You can use ur hand finger to count them:P

So, to do a recap:

Server 9 EXTREME GOAL

25billion-30 billion
Map Size: 2048 x 2048 (Water on 2 sides or more)
TL(Train Length) - 20-25  (in case of connection problems...will be reduced..)
30 airplanes
900-1000 performance demand
Dynamic for Oil Rigs
Loan: 1 mil
City_growth: 3(Normal)
Initial_city_size : 1 (lowest)
Multiple_industry_per_town: False (Not normal on long goals)
Breakdowns= False (No Breakdowns)
Acceleration= Realistic (Trains don`t slow down on slopes, but enter the depots with max 64km/h)
Allowing funding industries
START DATE : 1999

I did this recap to show you that even if you suggested interesting things.....we still didn`t choose a lot of settings:
1: Start Date & Goal
2: End Date(not accepting proposals done without tests)
3: Train Number
4: Road Vehicle Number
5: Flatness degree
6:Quantity of lakes
7:Number of towns who will become cities
8: Plane Speed divider
9: Allow funding cities?
10: Initial city size multiplier
11: Inflation?

For Start & End Date take into consideration that the longer the server lasts, the more load it issues....So we basically could have a game that runs very smooth by starting in 2015 or even 2018 and ending it in 2150 (example)

Also, the first period is the one to add more load

Such a game would run smoother then a game which starts in 1950 and ends in 2100 even if the second one is shorter

When proposing, please specify a small reason for your choice:)

I did this recap to show you that even if you suggested interesting things.....we still didn`t choose a lot of settings:
1: Start Date & Goal 2015 sounds nice :)
2: End Date(not accepting proposals done without tests) 2150 sounds nice
3: Train Number above 500 I dont think many players will get to 500 anyway (you can count them on 1 hand ;)
4: Road Vehicle Number 500?
5: Flatness degree less mountains then s5 but more hilly then s8
6:Quantity of lakes same as s5
7:Number of towns who will become cities 1 out of 5
8: Plane Speed divider 2 in my opinion it would be stupid to start with planes that are slower then the trains you start with
9: Allow funding cities?why not?
10: Initial city size multiplier smallest with normal that shouldnt be a problem
11: Inflation? please no

if you start with big and many cities i will go bananas with pax (especialy starting late)

easier than throwing someone right to maglev. Maybe make them start back in 75 or so, give them the chance to build up resources

yeh around mono time sounds good not way too exspensive compared to the maglevs.... i find the standard loco's annoying as hell starting up with on very long games lol but thats me

Resources are being built at start, no matter when that start is (in theory:)  ) Ok...1999 it will be as a start and i`ll modify the recap post to contain 1999 as start date.
But we need more proposals about the rest of the settings, otherwise we`ll go by the only ones that we got.

EXTEME long goal Server down ? :/,

At the age of 2110, after 24 hours of work, so close to reach the goal ?

After:

30 minutes of panicking
1 hour of raging
4 hours of frustrating

comes the time of calming down...

So I tried to put my experience into the suggestion thread for the server.

I have a min profit of 0 now. Only thing stopping me from winning the extreme long goal. How do I correct the min profit? :-\

Can you fix the server?. I played all day to get at least the second place. And now it seems the server does not work anymore.
